Messaging System
The messaging system allows to immediately send notifications about an event to the users of the Online group. It uses
XMPP
, an instant messaging platform that provides clients for Windows and Linux, and a tool for receiving messages through the command line interface when users are logged in to a server.
Requirements:
- Online account - The messaging system uses the Online accounts, that means you can login with the same username name and password that you use for connecting to the gateways, the control PCs, etc.
- XMPP/Jabber client - For sending and receiving messages you need a client that supports the XMPP (Jabber) protocol. On the Online PCs Pidgin has been installed and configured, but you can use any other client that you want (Kopete, Adium, Trillian, etc).
Configuration:
Use the following information for configuring your client:
- Protocol
- XMPP or Jabber
- Username
- (your Online network username)
- Domain
- im.lbdaq.cern.ch
- Jabber ID (*)
- (your Online network username)@im.lbdaq.cern.ch
- Password
- (your Online network password)
(
*) Required by some clients.
How do I send a message to all the members of a group?
If you want to send a message to the members of the group
onliners
, you have to add the contact
onliners@notification.lbim.cern.ch
and send him a message. In general, send a message to the contact
(group)@notification.lbim.cern.ch
. You have to be a member of that group in order to send it a message.
How do I send a message to all the users?
Just add the contact
all@notification.lbim.cern.ch
and send it a message.
Can I use a different client?
Yes, as long as it supports the XMPP protocol.
An overview of the systems and its components it's available
